Technical Patent Session at CBGP
Can a plant be patented?
On October 9, a Technical Patent Session took place at the Plant Biotechnology and Genomics Center,up the UPM-INIA mixed centre, where it was explained what can be patented in genomics and biotechnology of plants and in the organisms that interact with them.
Rosa Rodríguez presented the steps taken at the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA) to patent. Subsequently, Norma García developed the procedure to patent at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
During the session, Jose Manuel González emphasized that inventions that have as their object plant or animal are patentable if the technical feasibility of the invention is not limited to a particular plant variety or animal breed.
