The promotion of applied research in the university world is key to the promotion of transfer between the Society and the University. One of the ways to promote them is the creation of the “Doctoral Thesis and Applied Research Award”, especially assessing that research has involved the creation of Industrial and Intellectual Property assets, the creation of a spin-off or that a transfer of their results to the market has been achieved. This call is open to any doctoral thesis read and defended in a Spanish-speaking or Portuguese-speaking university, especially valuing its proper strategy of protection, exploitation and successful transfer to the market.
Convening Body: UNIVERSITY POLYTECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MADRID – CLARKE, MODET & Co.
Description of the prize: III Call for the “Doctoral Thesis Award” of the UPM-Clarke Chair, Modet & Co. The objective is to reward lines of research that have been reflected in a Doctoral Thesis but which, beyond its technical character or not, stand out for the proper management in:
– Your protection strategy through the different existing figures such as patents, designs, copyright, industrial secrets, etc.
– Its operation and successful transfer to the market through the creation of spin- offs, licenses, etc.
Requirements: The doctoral theses that attend the prize must have been read and defended, during the period 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2017, at any university of any Spanish-speaking or Portuguese-speaking country, both public and private.
Date to submit proposals:from 23 October 2018 to 23 November 2018.
Resolution period: 3 months after the closing of the submission of the work.
Documentation required: Once the filing period has closed, the finalist titles to which additional information may be requested such as the copy of the Doctoral Thesis or copy of the certificate showing the date of reading the Thesis and the qualification obtained will be selected. All documents will be requested in digital format.
Selection procedure: Once the deadline for submission is closed, the finalist titles will be selected by 23 December 2018, informing all participants by email of the result whether or not they are selected. The finalist theses will be submitted to a jury that will select the winning thesis by February 28, 2019.
Prize: The prize will consist of 3,000 euros.
